On February 13, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the IX Republican Competition "Scientists of the Tomorrow" was held. Two projects led by scientists of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of ANAS won the IX Republican Competition "Scientists of tomorrow" in the category "Biology". 11th-grade student of the School No. 177, Yasamal district, Seljan Nurullayeva and 10th-grade student of Classic gymnasium No.160, Sabail district, Tuba Aliyeva were awarded a Bronze Medal with the research conducted in the frame of the project "DNA transfer from Mitochondria to the nucleus" led by the head of the Institute's Bioinformatics laboratory, correspondent member of ANAS Ilham Shahmuradov. The aim of the project was to clarify whether slivers of mtDNA exist in the nuclear genomes of certain plants and animals and to assess how these slivers represent the mitochondrial genome.

The head of another project carried out at the Institute is a leading researcher of the Bioadaptation Laboratory, PhD., associate professor Nargiz Sultanova. 9th-grade student of the School No.5 in Nasimi district, Feyruz Sultanli and 10th-grade student of Modern Educational Complex, Khanim Huseynova were awarded a Bronze Medal with the project “Height stimulating effects of coumarin derivatives on the grape plant”. The main purpose of the presented project was to study the rich stimulatory effects of the biologically active substances produced from medicinal plants cultivated in our country and found in the wild.
