A regular meeting of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) was held on August 6.
Opening the event, President of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev acquainted the audience with the issues on the agenda.
The meeting discussed the tasks set by President Ilham Aliyev in his speech at the meeting in a video format on the state of the water sector.
In his speech on this issue, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev highly appreciated the preparation of proposals by Azerbaijani scientists to improve the state of the water sector. Having said that a great scientific potential is concentrated in ANAS, the head of the academy emphasized the need for the active participation of scientists in this process. Noting that it is necessary to expand fundamental research in this direction, the president of ANAS, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev added that it is necessary to draw up a digital cadastral map of water bodies, amelioration and irrigation systems soon, conduct regular monitoring, predict problems that may arise in connection with water security, and prepare scientifically based proposals aimed at eliminating them.
