Basic scientific achievements | For the first time, a comparative analysis of oxidative stress enzymes in a single-celled green alga D. salina was performed at high salt concentrations. Information was obtained on the relationship between increased activity of antioxidant enzymes and de novo synthesis of their isoenzymes. Antioxidant defense systems were studied in detail in wheat genotypes exposed to constant soil water stress and for the first time, three new isoforms of ascorbate peroxidase and four new isoforms of glutathione reductase were found to emerge as a result of the changes in the genome expression under drought. Mn-SOD was shown to play an important role in the detoxification of superoxide radicals in plants exposed to water stress, and the use of these enzymes as a marker of drought tolerance in the selection of stress-tolerant varieties was suggested. The activity of antioxidant enzymes was found to increase during the generative development of the plant, both in the leaf and in the root, but this increase was more marked in the above-ground organs of the plant. |
