This significant day was established by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev dated April 9, 2018. Science Day in our country also coincides with the establishment of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Today is a holiday for everyone involved in science, the scientific community of Azerbaijan as a whole.  

ANAS has great merits in the development of various spheres of the life of the republic, in the formation and strengthening of public opinion, in the struggle for state independence. After the establishment of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1945, a perfect organizational structure of science was formed in the republic, and the implementation of scientific research became systematic. The rapid development stage of the Academy is connected with the name of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The Great Leader said: “Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences is a national treasure of our people. We must preserve this wealth”. With the signing of the Decree dated May 15, 2001, the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences was renamed the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Continuing the political line of national leader Heydar Aliyev with confidence and success, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev repeatedly stressed that the future of the people depends on science and education, and noted that modern state building is impossible without the development of science. President Ilham Aliyev said: “Azerbaijan's intellectual elite is concentrated in the Academy. The development of the Academy has a direct impact on the development of science in Azerbaijan.” The high attention paid to the development of science also serves to strengthen and develop Azerbaijan, ensure its global recognition and a worthy place.
