On June 7, 2022, at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of ANAS, a preliminary discussion of the dissertation submitted by Nahida Aliyeva, a researcher at the Laboratory of Cell Membrane Systems, for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty 2406.02 - "Biochemistry", was held. The research on the topic “Molecular organization of structural-functional components of the thylakoid membranes in plants with C4-metabolism "was carried out under the guidance of Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Saftar Suleymanov. The applicant presented the main provisions of the dissertation and gave detailed information about the results. She noted that for the first time, chloroplasts of mesophyll and bundle sheath cells have been comprehensively studied in the maize plant belonging to C4-type photosynthesis under both normal and salt stress conditions. The study of changes in morphophysiological traits, biochemical properties, and ultrastructure of plants under salt stress is important for elucidating the mechanisms of adaptation to stress and can be used to develop salt-tolerant maize varieties.
After the presentation, the speeches of the reviewers were heard and extensive discussions were held around the dissertation. N. Aliyeva answered the questions and expressed her attitude toward the remarks and suggestions. At the end of the meeting, it was decided to allow the dissertation to the next stage of defense.
