Gunay Ismayilova, a junior researcher at the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies, was on a scientific trip at Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey. During her scientific trip, Gunay conducted research on her Ph.D. topic “Study of epigenetic changes in in vitro isolated wheat plant ". In addition to studying the effects of abiotic stresses on different wheat genotypes grown in vitro, she also studied different wheat seeds obtained from the Agricultural Research Institute, and epigenetic changes that happen in their callus and regenerating plants. For the first time in Azerbaijan, during epigenetic studies, retrotransposons specific to soybean, barley, and rice plants were detected in callus and regeneration of wheat plant obtained under in vitro conditions, as well as in leaf samples obtained from control seeds, as well as in wheat samples subjected to abiotic stress.
