A bilateral scientific research project between Turkey and Azerbaijan was discussed + Photo Oct 06, 2022 | 16:00 / Scientific mission

A leading researcher of the Bioadaptation Laboratory of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies, the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ph.D., Associate professor Nargiz Sultanova was on a scientific mission at Tubitak MRC (Marmara Research Center) IGEB (Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnologies) located in Istanbul, Turkey. The purpose of the visit was to study Next Generation Sequencing, and qPCR methods used in new metagenomics technologies and to prepare a bilateral scientific research project between Turkey and Azerbaijan. Modern High-throughput sequencing and small RNA deep sequencing technologies such as HTS and sRNA-seq are used to create unique conditions for the detection of the presence of both previously identified and unknown pathogens, viruses, or viroids, including non-pathogenic viruses in plant samples. From this point of view, solving the problems posed in the project by applying new metagenomics technologies is of special importance for the science of both countries. Using the Genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) method in the grape plant, the experience was exchanged in the field of genetic diversity research, identification of virus-sensitive and resistant varieties, and opportunities for cooperation between IMBB and Tubitak MRC IGEB were discussed.
