On September 10, the leading researcher of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the MSE RA, the director of the Gobustan Regional Experiment Station of the  Research Institute of Crop Husbandry of the Ministry of Agriculture, PhD in biology, associate professor Atabey Jahangirov turned 65 years old. Atabey Jahangirov was born on September 10, 1958 in the Gazimammad district of the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1975-1980, after completing his studies at the chemistry faculty of the Azerbaijan State University, he started working as a laboratory assistant in the plant physiology department of the Agricultural Research Institute, and in 1981 he was admitted to postgraduate studies. In 1988, under the guidance of Academician Jalal Aliyev, he defended his thesis on "Products of photosynthesis in wheat genotypes with different productivity and the characteristics of their utilization" and received the PhD degree in "Plant Physiology". He successfully defended his dissertation on "Morphophysiological basis of selection of winter soft wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under rainfed conditions of Mountainous Shirvan" in the speciality "Plant Physiology" in order to receive a Doctor of Science degree in biology at the Dissertation Council operating under the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of MSE RA in 2023. As a result of long-term scientific research, he created Layagatli 80, Lider, Jubilee 90, Baba 75, Champion and Gulustan 100 varieties, and it was recommended to cultivate them in the rainfed conditions that are not provided stable with moisture.

 A. Jahangirov has been working as the director of the Gobustan Regional Experiment Station of the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry since 2001. The scientist is the author of more than 60 scientific works and participated in many international and local conferences. In 2011, he was awarded the "Progress" medal by order of the President of the Republic, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, for his effective work in the field of Agriculture, and in 2019, he was awarded the title of associate professor by the decision of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
