On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, employees of the AR ETN Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies visited the Alley of Martyrs, laid flowers in front of the martyrs' graves and prayed for their souls. Later, a commemorative event was held at the institute. The event started with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs. Opening the event, PhD Alamdar Mammadov, executive director of the institute, stated that January 20 is an honorable date that shows the struggle of our people for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. On the night of January 19-20, 1990, one of the most brutal crimes was committed against the Azerbaijani people. The Soviet regime under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev committed a real massacre in Baku. Civilians who demanded a just solution to the Karabakh conflict from the local and central government were brutally tortured. This act of aggression was aimed at stifling the struggle of the Azerbaijani people for democracy and national freedom and inflicting a moral blow on the people. However, all this not only did not scare the people of Azerbaijan but rather increased their hatred towards the Soviet empire. People gathered their martyrs from the streets and squares without being afraid of automatic bayonets and tank gun barrels being pointed at them. Despite the state of emergency, on January 22, people saw off their martyrs from Azadlik Square to the last stop, Martyrs' Alley.

Speaking at the event, correspondent member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov, doctor of biological sciences Safter Suleymanov, researcher of the institute Aygun Sadigova and others noted that the dear memory of our martyrs will never be forgotten.

At the end of the event, a video dedicated to the January 20 tragedy was shown.
