On February 26, an event was held on the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the MSE RA. First, the event participants commemorated the Khojaly victims with a minute of silence. Academician Irada Huseynova, general director of the institute, opened the event and noted that the Khojaly genocide is the most terrible of the crimes committed by Armenia against the peaceful Azerbaijani population and humanity in general during the war of aggression against Azerbaijan. On the night of February 25-26, 1992, the armed forces of Armenia grossly violated the norms and principles of international law, attacked the city of Khojaly with the participation of the 366th motor rifle regiment of the former USSR army located in Khankendi, and massacred the civilian population with unprecedented cruelty. As a result of the terrible massacre committed by Armenian usurpers, 613 peaceful citizens of Azerbaijan were killed, including 63 children, 106 women, and 70 old people. As a result, 8 families were destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one of their parents, 487 civilians were seriously injured, and 1275 people were taken hostage. The fate of 150 hostages, including 68 women and 26 children, is still unknown. Academician Irada Huseynova noted the services of deceased journalist Chingiz Mustafayev in documenting the scale and horrors of the tragedy and said that our nation will never forget the Khojaly tragedy. The speaker drew special attention to the fact that upon the initiative of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, a political assessment was given to the Khojaly tragedy, according to the decision of the Milli Majlis dated February 24, 1994, February 26 was declared the day of the Khojaly genocide, and international organizations were informed about it. The work done within the campaign "Justice for Khojaly!" organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation is expanding year by year. Presentations dedicated to the Khojaly genocide have become permanent in state institutions, youth organizations and higher education institutions within the framework of the "Justice to Khojaly" international campaign, which started on May 8, 2008, at the initiative of the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva.
