Head of the Department of Plant Viruses of DSMZ - German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures at the Leibniz Institute of Germany, Professor Stephan Winter was on a secondment at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of MSE RA. After visiting the laboratories of IMBB, the scientist received detailed information about the research work, and then a scientific seminar was held on "Modern diagnostic methods of plant viruses". The speaker noted that in recent years, many studies have been conducted using molecular-genetic methods based on various new technologies to characterize pathogenic viruses and determine the pathogen-host organism interaction. In the seminar, the scientist informed the seminar participants about the application possibilities of modern new generation sequencing and high-throughput sequencing technologies such as RNA deep sequencing in solving important problems such as the study of the molecular mechanisms of the relationship between vector carrier - pathogen - host organism in plants, identification of phytopathogens of quarantine importance, but also of uncertain etiology, predicting diseases and increasing their control. Wide discussions were held around the speech. Prof. Stephan Winter answered the questions of the seminar participants. At the end of the seminar, the director general of IMBB, academician Irada Huseynova thanked the guest for his interesting speech and said that she believed that such meetings would be an opportunity for future joint scientific work between the institutes. After the seminar, the submission of a joint project to the grant competition (BMBF) announced by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Scientific Research for the Eastern Partnership countries and potential cooperation opportunities were discussed in detail.
