Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, General Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Academician Irada Huseynova participated as a speaker in the event entitled "Science and innovation for low-emission and sustainable food systems" held jointly by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), CGIAR and other international organizations at the COP29 climate conference with the invitation of the Executive Director of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Dr. Ismahane Elouafi.
CGIAR is a huge partnership system connecting 15 international research centers (https://www.cgiar.org/research/research-centers) located on different continents. As Academician Irada Huseynova stated in her speech, the Republic of Azerbaijan has close cooperation relations with many of these centers, especially during the years of independence.
In her speech, Academician Irada Huseynova first drew attention to the consequences of climate change in the agricultural system and environmental problems relevant to Azerbaijan. The scientist said that the priority research directions put forward by the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS aim to contribute to the solution of relevant problems.
Dr. Silvia Massruhá, President of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, Dr. Ramón Pichs-Madruga, Vice-Chair of IPCC of the UN's scientific assessment body, Dr. Ramón Pichs-Madruga, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan Kubota Osamu, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion from the COP25 Presidency Gonzalo Muñoz et al. spoke about the role of science and innovation in agricultural systems to achieve nature-related goals.
