The next scientific seminar was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies on Aprel 11, 2019.  Leading researcher of the laboratory of the enzymology of photosynthetic carbon assimilation, PhD Ulduza Gurbanova gave report on “Molecular review of evolution of C4 photosynthesis”. The reporter noted that from theory of evolution, C3-photosynthesis was considered ancestral of C4-photosynthesis. C4 plants use water and nitrogen more efficiently than C3 plants. In warm climatic conditions, the effectiveness of photosynthesis in C4 plants increases, allowing 50% growth rate compared to C3 plants. U.Gurbanova gave detailed information about stages and conditions of evoluation to C4 photosynthesis. The seminar was met with interest by participants and the reporter comprehensively answered arisen questions.
