In early April 2016, Azerbaijani frontline positions and settlements came under intense artillery fire from the Armenian armed forces. Azerbaijan’s forces launched an offensive into the territories occupied by Armenian forces and repulsed the enemy's attacks on the civilian population.

In general, the Azerbaijani Army defeated the enemy with a rapid counter-offensive, destroying more than 2,000 hectares of the occupied territories of Fizuli, Jabrayil and Agdara regions, the heights around Talysh village of Tartar region, Lalatapa height of Jabrayil region and Jojug Marjanli, Gulustan village of Goranboy region and ome positions in the direction of Madagiz village of Tartar  region were liberated from the enemy. Thus, the myth of criminal Armenian leaders about impassable Armenian trenches was overturned. In these battles, the Armenian armed forces suffered heavy losses. As a result of the decisive blows of our army, about 30 enemy tanks, more than 25 artillery pieces and other armored vehicles were destroyed, 320 servicemen were killed and more than 500 fighters were wounded. Aghdara-Madagiz, Jabrayil roads were kept under control.

The April battles showed the world the strength of the Azerbaijani Army, the determination to win, the restoration of justice. The April battles, known as the "Four-Day War", raised the military patriotism of every Azerbaijani citizen. The victory in the April battles increased the confidence of our people in the army. Today, anyone with a weapon is ready to fight for the homeland. Recent battles have shown once again the great potential of our army. These successful battles are only the starting point for future victories of our Armed Forces.

The words of the President of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev about the importance of the April battles clearly express the importance of this victory for our army and people:

"The April fighting should be included in military textbooks," he said. In terms of both professionalism and patriotism, the April battles once again showed that the Azerbaijani people are a heroic people. It showed once again that we will not accept this situation. He showed that the unity of the people and government is being ensured and strengthened at a high level in Azerbaijan today. The settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is, as always, a priority for us.
