On January 30, 2018 a regular meeting of the Dissertation Council, functioning at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies, ANAS was held. The doctoral thesis of the leading researcher of the Laboratory of Enzymology of photosynthetic carbon assimilation, Doctor of Philosophy in Biology, Associate Professor Hasan Garib Babayev on the theme "Biochemical characteristics of the tolerance to drought and salt stress of wheat and amaranth plants" submitted for the scientific degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences was discussed. The research work, which scientific adviser was the late academic Jalal Aliyev, is a  part of a complex  investigation of photosynthesis, which contributes to understanding the molecular mechanisms of plant adaptation to various stress conditions, the functioning and regulation of cellular metabolism and ways to develop tolerance to stress. Studies of the enzymes differing in tissue and subcellular localization, but identical in physiological functions under conditions of soil drought in plants with different photosynthetic mechanisms, are very relevant to understanding the biochemical mechanisms of stress tolerance. The doctoral thesis was unanimously approved by the members of the Council and proposed for submission to the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for awarding G.G.Babayev the scientific degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences.
