IMBB young scientist on İctimai TV talks about medicines and vaccines against coronavirus May 01, 2020 | 12:43 / Important events

Ayten Agayeva, senior researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of ANAS, was a guest of the program “Sabahın xeyir, Azərbaycan!” İctimai TV.

Presenting the latest information on the state of medical devices and vaccines against the virus, the scientist noted that at present, the development of pandemic drugs and vaccines is carried out in two directions. She brought to the attention that today scientists are developing new drugs on the market, including various antiviral, antiparasitic and antibacterial drugs that determine antiviral activity in a single and complex way. In addition, A. Agayeva said that new vaccines were developed in three directions. These are vaccines made from weakened or killed coronaviruses, as well as vaccines made from surface proteins of the virus using any nanoparticle or viral vector that contains the DNA or RNA of the virus genome.

The scientist said that this process took many years: “New vaccines go through four stages, including preclinical animal trials, human clinical trials, confirmation of drug activity, licensing and marketing.”

Presenting the latest data from the World Health Organization, the young specialist said that 6 vaccines are currently undergoing clinical trials, and 77 vaccines are in the preclinical stage.
