| Key scientific achievements | A total of 58 species of 17 Arthrobotrys species and 41 species of Penicillium species were isolated from the soils of the Absheron Peninsula of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The isolated species were studied in a comprehensive manner for their phytotoxic activity, the nature of their endogenous and exogenous metabolites, and the mycotoxins they synthesized. It was clear that among the recorded fungi, species such as Penicillium atrovenetum, P.clavigerum, P.duclauxii, P.palitans and P.viridicyclopium are new species specific to the mycobiota of Azerbaijani nature. The phytotoxic activity of the Penicillium and Arthrobotrys genera was studied, and the endogenous and exogenous metabolites of the genera selected as a result of the initial screening with high toxic activity were comparatively studied. It was clear that the metabolites causing phytotoxic activity are mainly exogenous in nature. The nature of both endogenous and exogenous metabolites causing phytotoxic activity of species belonging to the Penicillium and Arthrobotrys genera was determined. The relationship between the biomass yield of fungi of the genera Arthrobotrys and Penicillium and the total amount of mycotoxins was studied. The mycotoxins produced by species of these fungi in optimized environments were identified and it was determined that species of the genus Penicillium synthesize pharmacologically important mycotoxins such as aflatoxin, ochratoxin, citrinin, chrysogin, roquefortin, melagrine, penicillin, xanthocillin X, ergosterol penicillic acid, etc., while the metabolites synthesized and toxic by fungi of the genus Arthrobotrys consist of compounds such as oligosporan and oligosporol and their derivatives, and have weak pharmacological activity. |
