| Key scientific achievements | Scientific foundations have been developed for establishing mechanisms for the collection, systematization, storage, dissemination, exchange, analysis, and updating of data on plant genetic resources of Azerbaijan, as well as for the formation of an information space. The Information System on Plant Genetic Resources of Azerbaijan and its integral component—the Central Database—as well as other information databases related to plant genetic resources, have been established and further developed. Based on the information system, recommendations and user guidelines have been developed for conducting theoretical and practical research in the fields of food security and environmental protection. The taxonomic diversity of national collections of plant genetic resources of Azerbaijan has been assessed, and recommendations for collection and regeneration activities for ex situ collections have been developed based on the analysis of passport and ecological data. For the first time in Azerbaijan, a bio-ecogeographical and bioclimatic study of the genetic diversity of pomegranate has been conducted as a model, and the diversity requiring conservation has been identified. |
