Key scientific achievements

Research on the development of test systems for the immunodiagnostics of a number of human, animal, and plant diseases was conducted using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Within a research project, an ELISA-based rapid diagnostic test system for the detection of the causative agent of bacterial dysentery (Shigella sonnei) was developed at the Pasteur Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (St. Petersburg). An ELISA-based diagnostic system for the detection of Pseudomonas syringae parasitizing grape cultivars grown in the Absheron region was also developed. Since 1996, she has been engaged in studying the effects of low-dose gamma radiation on plants. In these studies, the effects of radiation-induced stress conditions were investigated at different levels of plant organization using modern experimental biology methods, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with RAPD and STR primers. A project entitled “Development of new bioindication systems for monitoring radioactively contaminated areas of the Absheron Peninsula,” in which she was both an author and one of the principal executors, was awarded a joint grant in 2008 funded by the Civilian Research and Development Foundation and the Azerbaijan National Science Foundation. Within the framework of this project, studies of plants distributed in radioactively contaminated areas of the Absheron Peninsula (including the territory of the former Ramana Iodine Plant) were continued. The activity levels of natural and artificial radionuclides along soil profiles were determined in several regions of the republic, particularly in Absheron soils, and their migration characteristics were established. It was shown that this process is complex in nature. Based on these studies, radioecological maps of several regions were compiled. Since 2017, she has been investigating various stress-induced DNA lesions (C–C, C–T, and T–T pyrimidine dimers) in local wheat genotypes using ELISA methods based on specific monoclonal antibodies. Additionally, she conducts research on stress-induced polymorphisms in the gene encoding the CPD photolyase enzyme, which catalyzes the repair of pyrimidine dimers via photoreactivation, using gene-specific primers.
