A research article reflecting the joint study conducted by scientists from the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies (IMBB) under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan and researchers from Azerbaijan Medical University has been published in both English and Russian in the journal Biochemistry (Moscow) / Биохимия (Impact Factor – 2.3). Authored by Nahida Aliyeva, Durna Aliyeva, Saftar Suleymanov, Fuad Rzayev, Eldar Gasimov, and Irada Huseynova, the article titled “Comparative Analysis of Mesophyll and Bundle Sheath Chloroplasts from Maize Plants Subjected to Salt Stress” appeared in the April issue of this year (2025, Vol. 90, No. 4, pp. 1–12). For the first time, the article presents a comprehensive comparative study of the biochemical properties and ultrastructure of thylakoid membranes in mesophyll and bundle sheath cells of maize (Zagatala 420 variety) under normal conditions (0 mM NaCl) and under salt stress (100 mM, 200 mM, and 250 mM). The findings show that mesophyll and bundle sheath chloroplasts of maize differ significantly in terms of their biochemical parameters, ultrastructure, and tolerance to salt stress. It has been found that mesophyll cells are more sensitive to salt stress compared to bundle sheath cells.
