On October 8, a jubilee event dedicated to the 130th anniversary of academician Mustafa Topchubashov was held at the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). The ceremony was jointly organized by ANAS and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event was attended by ANAS President Isa Habibbayli, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev, Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee Ahliman Amiraslanov, and other prominent scientists, officials, and family members of the academician. Participants first visited Topchubashov’s grave at the Alley of Honor to pay tribute to his memory. Later, they viewed an exhibition featuring artworks reflecting his life and career.

In his opening speech, Isa Habibbayli emphasized Topchubashov’s outstanding contributions to Azerbaijani medical science and his role as a founder of the practical surgery school. Minister Teymur Musayev highlighted Topchubashov’s scientific achievements, including the invention of the safer “Analgezin” ether-oil anesthesia method in 1938 and his innovations in surgical techniques.

Academician Irada Huseynova, Vice President of ANAS, delivered a comprehensive presentation titled “On the Scientific and Organizational Activity of Academician Mustafa Topchubashov.” She noted that Topchubashov received his medical education at Kyiv University and later made significant contributions to establishing Azerbaijan’s national healthcare system. She underlined his groundbreaking research on surgical anesthesia, leading to the discovery of “Analgezin” in 1937 — a simple, safe, and widely used method that reduced surgical risks. Huseynova also stressed that this method was officially approved for production by the USSR People’s Commissariat of Health in 1945 and successfully applied in surgery, trauma, and obstetrics. Furthermore, she discussed his leadership roles at the Azerbaijan Medical University and the Academy of Sciences, as well as his impact on medical education and scientific development in Azerbaijan.

Other speakers, including Ahliman Amiraslanov, Geray Geraybeyli, and Aziz Alakbarli, spoke about his pioneering role in Azerbaijani surgery and medical education. The event concluded with a speech by Ceyhun Topchubashov, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the family for honoring his father’s memory.
