Research is being carried out at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education on the molecular mechanisms of leaf senescence under both natural and drought conditions. The main objective of these studies is to investigate the activity of genes regulating the senescence process in plants, determine the impact of drought on this process, and identify genotypes that are more tolerant to drought stress.

Scientists have obtained significant findings by investigating the effects of senescence and drought on gene activity in wheat. The research demonstrates that gene expression analysis makes it possible to assess the plant's response to stress factors. The results are expected to contribute to the development of drought-tolerant wheat varieties and provide a scientific basis for future wheat breeding programs.
