On behalf of the members of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the staff of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijani scientific community, Academician Irada Huseynova, Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Vice-President of ANAS, congratulated Nobel laureate and distinguished scientist Professor Aziz Sancar on his 80th anniversary.

In her congratulatory letter sent on the occasion of his anniversary, Academician Irada Huseynova particularly highlighted Professor Aziz Sancar’s contributions to science, his fundamental research into DNA repair mechanisms, and his attention to and support for Azerbaijani science and young researchers.

The letter also highlighted Professor Aziz Sancar’s scientific ties with Azerbaijan. His visits to Azerbaijan, meetings with Azerbaijani scientists, election as an honorary member of ANAS, as well as his activities as an honorary member of the Editorial Board of the Institute of Molecular Biology’s journal, Transactions of the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnologies, were highly appreciated.

In his reply to the congratulatory letter, Professor Aziz Sancar expressed his gratitude and noted that he had received more congratulations from Azerbaijan than from Türkiye. Emphasizing that he considers himself Azerbaijani, he conveyed his love and greetings to Academician Irada Huseynova and to all his Azerbaijani brothers and expressed his wish to meet again in the near future.
