The republican scientific conference devoted to the 90th anniversary of an outstanding linguist, turkologist and public figure, author of modern Azerbaijani alphabet and founder of the onomastic science school, Honored Scientist, State Prize laureate, correspondent member of ANAS Afad Gurbanov was held in the Main Building of ANAS. 

Initially, the participants got acquainted with the exhibition, reflecting the scientific activity of the prominent scientist in the foyer.

President of ANAS, Academician Akif Alizadeh spoke about the life of prominent scientist Afad Gurbanov, his rich scientific and pedagogical activity and his achievements. He said that Afad Gurbanov, whose name is in the same line with the linguists of Azerbaijani linguistics, accepted by Turkic and European linguists as the author of the original scientific concepts at all times.

Academician A.Alizadeh noted that the linguistic scientist was exceptional in the history of ANAS development and noted that he has been doing important work for 40 years and was a member or chairman of many commissions and defense councils. His "General Linguistics" work is now used as the sole textbook in higher education institutions, the scientist noted.

Then Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Idris Isayev spoke about the role of Afad Gurbanov in the development of science and education in Azerbaijan. He spoke about the great services of the scientist in the development history of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University.

Then, the deputy president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician Talia Khabriyeva read a letter addressed to the participants of the conference by the president of the RAS, academician Alexander Sergeyev.

Rector of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, professor Jafar Jafarov, director of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi, academician Mohsin Nagisoylu, director of the Institute of History named after AABakikhanov, academician Yagub Mahmudov,  head of Ataturk Center in Azerbaijan, academician Nizami Jafarov and others made reports at the event.

The reports highlighted the importance of Afad Gurbanov's works and emphasized his high intelligence level, broad outlook, rich spirituality, sophisticated and wise intelligence.

In the end, a documentary film about Professor Afad Gurbanov was demonstrated.
