Azerbaijani scientist participated in the 15th meeting of the Bioethics Committee of the Council of Europe Jun 11, 2019 | 14:43 / Scientific mission

The leading researcher of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of ANAS, scientific secretary of the Azerbaijan National Bioethics Committee, Ph.D. Gulnara Balakishiyeva participated in the 13th meeting of the Bioethics Committee of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg, France, on 4-7 June 2019. The event started with seminars dedicated to public debates for the management of new technologies, organized by the Council of Europe's Bioethics Committee (DH-BIO) under the President of the French Committee of Ministers. Instruction for the public debate of the Working Group of Bioethics Committee of the Council of Europe in Biomedicine was discussed and the country representatives made their comments. Key issues in the agenda of the meeting were ethical and legal issues related to human genome processing technologies, gender equality, the anonymity of sperm and oocytes, the balance of parents ', donors' and children's rights. During the meeting, the Working Group also discussed the Strategic Action Plan for 2020-2021 and identified key priority areas. At the end of the meeting, it was proposed to prepare an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in order to comment on Article 29 of the Oviedo Convention, and the representatives of the member states of the Oviedo Convention expressed their attitude towards the proposal and finally decided to appeal to the ECHR.
