On January 19, an event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the tragedy of January 20 was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies. The memory of martyrs was honored with a minute of silence. Deputy Director of the Institute, PhD Alamdar Mammadov noted that the killing of hundreds of innocent people who defended the national freedom and territorial integrity of their country was the result of a purposeful policy against the Azerbaijani people. 131 people were killed in Baku as a result of the illegal invasion of the Soviet army. Among those killed were women, children and old people, as well as doctors of medical emergency service and police officers. However, the bloody crime of the empire against the civilians did not break the will of our people fighting for freedom and independence. During the period when Azerbaijan was in the information blockade, in Moscow - the capital of the empire - the outstanding personality of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, speaking at a press conference, addressed the leaders of the USSR and the whole world with condemnation of the bloody crime against the residents of Baku. Our people will never forget this day and will always honor the heroes of January 20.
