On April 10, 2020, on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States Ilham Aliyev, an extraordinary summit of the Turkic Council was held via video conference. Speaking at a meeting dedicated to the coronavirus pandemic, the head of state noted that the Turkic Council was established on the basis of friendship and brotherhood.

The President said that the Turkic Council was the first international organization in the world to hold a summit on the COVID-19 pandemic at the level of heads of state: “This is another clear embodiment of our exemplary solidarity. The common ancestral, historical, cultural and national values that unite us are an important basis for our mutually beneficial cooperation”.

The meeting focused on ways to combat the global spread of COVID-19 virus, to show solidarity among members of the Turkic Council in these difficult times, to strengthen cooperation, as well as to expand cooperation in economic, trade, transport and other fields in the post-pandemic period.

Today, the International Turkic Academy organized an online meeting in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, dedicated to the activities of the National Academies of Sciences of the Turkic states during the COVID-19 pandemic. The agenda of the event included the current state of science in the Turkic states in crisis situations, the exchange of experience of decisions made during the pandemic, as well as the discussion of promising areas of scientific cooperation.

The conference was opened by the President of the International Turkic Academy Darkhan Kidirali.

First Vice-President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli participated in the event via video conferencing system. Welcoming the participants, the scientist said that due to the spread of the coronavirus, a new era is taking place in the world, and self-isolation has come to the fore among the challenges of the pandemic.

Providing information about the situation with the coronavirus pandemic in Azerbaijan, academician I. Habibbayli noted that the disease is under the control of the President of the country, and our people have shown solidarity with the head of state in these difficult days. He noted that by the order of President Ilham Aliyev, financial assistance was provided to low-income groups, more than 600,000 citizens for April and May.

The scientist noted the importance of holding online seminars, symposiums and presentations together with the Academies of Sciences. He said that at the same time, our science must be able to make appropriate forecasts for each epidemic and make concrete scientific proposals.

"Observations already show that the coronavirus era in the world is on the decline," said Isa Habibbayli, expressing confidence that we will soon get out of this difficult and responsible situation and return to normal life.

At the end of his speech, academician I.Habibbeyli addressed his sincere wishes to each participant of the conference and the staff of the Academies represented at the event.

Representatives of academies of other Turkic states also spoke at the online conference. Thus, the President of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences academician Murat Dzhurinov, the President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences Professor Ahmad Javad Ajar, Vice-President of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences Bahram Abduhalimov, President of the Kyrgyzstan Academy of Sciences academician Murat Jumatayev, President of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences academician Myakzyum Salahov, President of the Academy of Sciences of Bashkortostan academician Alfis Gayazov, proposed various forms of cooperation during the pandemic and spoke about the measures taken in their countries to combat coronavirus.

Then a resolution was signed on the COVID-19 Pandemic Meeting of the Academies of Sciences of the Turkic States. The resolution was signed by the Academies of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan, as well as representatives of the International Turkic Academy.

Finally, it was decided that the Union of Turkic Academies to be chaired by the Kyrgyzstan Academy of Sciences.
