Basic scientific achievements

The activity of antioxidant enzymes (CAT, APO, GR, SOD) in all phases of ontogenesis in wheat genotypes cultivated in normal irrigation and under drought was studied and correlation was observed between the genetic determinant sustainability of wheat genotypes and antioxidant activity of enzymes;

For the first time in Azerbaijan, using functional markers, the genes of the transcription factor Dreb1, which regulates drought resistance at the level of various wheat genomes, have been identified;

Effective resistant to brown, yellow and stem rast diseases LC9, Lr19, Lr34, Yr9, Yr18, Sr11, Sr26, Sr31 genes have been detected in bread and durum wheat genotypes collected in the National Genofond with STS (Sequence-tagged-site), SCAR (Sequence Characterized Amplified Regions) and SSR (Simple Sequence Repeat) molecular markers;

Wheat germplasm has been tested, and effective resistant gene sources have been characterized against the TKTTF ras group, which is located in Azerbaijan using KASP (Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR) genotyping technology for the first time in Azerbaijan;

Race composition in the causative of the stem rust disease has been molecularly characterized in wheat plants from various regions of Azerbaijan. SNP (Single nucleotide polymorphism) genotyping based on single nucleotide polymorphism has not revealed the Ug99 race group. Genetic diversity has been observed in 54 samples of 17 multilocus genotypes. It has been found that 12 samples belong to TKTTF race group, whereas 42 samples belong to a new, unidentified race group;

The DREB transcription factor gene was isolated and molecularly characterized from the genome of durum wheat genotype Barakatli-95. Three conserved regions specific for DREB gene identified in sequence products: the EREBP/AP2 DNA-binding domain, the N-terminating signal that determines its localization in the nucleus, and the Ser/Thr rich region adjacent to the EREBP/AP2 domain;

A comparative analysis of drought-induced DREB1 transcription factor gene expression in wheat genotypes of Azerbaijani and German origin was performed.
