Women’s Council held an event dedicated to the “International day of women and girls in science”. Opening the event, chairman of the council PhD Fazila Gasimova said that with the adoption of the resolution of the  United Nations General Assembly on December 22, 2015, the establishment of the International  Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February,  activities of women in contemporary science have become even more prominent.  She emphasized Azerbaijani women’s role in science and showed as a clear example of academician Irada Huseynova who is a director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies, Vice-president of ANAS.

Then the researcher of the “Bioadaptation laboratory” Samra Mirzayeva noted that women were majority in the institute and they were active in the scientific-public life.

Researcher of the “Laboratory of Computational structural biology” Rafiga Masmaliyeva spoke about some important discoveries of women in world scientific history.

The leading researcher of the “Laboratory of Genome structure and expression” Seadet Khudaverdiyeva and the junior researcher of the “Laboratory of Photochemistry of chloroplasts” noted that despite the superiority of men in world statistics, the number of women engaged in scientific activities had increased in recent years compared to previous years.
