Scientific seminar on "Y-Chromosome: Evolution, organization, mutations, polymorphism, research prospects" + Photo Dec 07, 2020 | 17:00 / Seminars

On December 7, 2020, a scientific seminar on "Y-Chromosome: Evolution, organization, mutations, polymorphism, research prospects" was held by the leading researcher of the Bioinformatics Laboratory, Ph.D., Associate Professor Nurmammad Mustafayev. The speaker provided quite extensive and comprehensive information on the topic. He provided interesting information on the evolution of the Y chromosome and the organization of genes, also paid special attention to mutations in the Y chromosome and diseases associated with these mutations. Also, the speaker spoke about the issues of polymorphism of the Y chromosome, markers used to study polymorphism, noting that these studies play an exceptional role in solving problems of identification, genealogy, as well as the study of the origin and genetic structure of populations. Today, there are several giant genome projects designed to read the full genome with the involvement of a large number of people from different populations: 1,000 genomes, 10,000 genomes, 100,000 genomes, and so on. Although the main purpose of these projects is to detect genome differences between populations, special attention will be paid to the thorough study of sex chromosomes (X- and Y-) during the implementation of projects. Interesting discussions were held on the topic with many questions to the speaker.
