Garib Murshudov the leader of the Computer crystallography group of the Cambridge University of Great Britain and head of the laboratory of Computational structural biology of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies visited our institute (August 27 - September 8). The research program "Refinement and validation of macromolecular structures", led by G. Murshudov is financed by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS under the number 5/9 (March 15, 2017), and profound research is being carried out in this direction. The research performed in the laboratory was discussed, after which the scientist made recommendations for young colleagues.

On September 5, the Pedagogical Forum, organized under the patronage of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU) was held. Garib Murshudov spoke on the topic: "Modern Structural Biology and Future Prospects". The administration of the ASPU, deans of the faculties, heads of the departments, teaching staff of the university, scientists of the research institutes of ANAS and higher education institutions, education experts, members of the pedagogical community, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and journalists covering the problems of education took part in the meeting. Professor G. Murshudov thanked the administration of the ASPU for organizing the speech and wished success to the staff of the university. The scientist spoke in detail about structural biology, which objects are biological processes, the structure of proteins and molecules. Structural Biology arose in the 30s of the last century and achieved great success in recent years. Structural Biology has great prospects and in the future this scientific field will develop with a greater speed. In the closing speech rector of the ASPU Jafar Jafarov noted that the meeting with the prominent scientist G. Murshudov on the eve of the new academic year is extremely important. J. Jafarov thanked the scientist for an interesting and informative report and wished him further success.
