An event devoted to the International Day of the Girl Child, was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies on October 10. The event was attended by women's staff of the institute. In her opening speech Chair of the Women's Council, PhD in Biology Gasimova Fazila spoke about the establishment history of the International Day of the Girl Child. According to the UN General Assembly's recommendation made in 2011, October 11 was declared as the International Day of the Girl Child, which has been celebrated every year since 2012. The main purpose of the celebration of this day is to focus on the protection of the rights of girls, social problems they face as representatives of their gender, and ensuring gender equality. Educational issues, healthy nutrition, medical care, social rights, and protection from violence and forced marriages relate to these problems. In the appeal made by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2013, it was emphasized that empowering girls, ensuring their rights, creating educational opportunities for girls, and combating discrimination and violence are crucial to human development.

Then, the Deputy Chair of the Women's Council of the institute, PhD in Biology Saadat Khudaverdiyeva made detailed comments on the issues raised on the International Day of the Girl Child from 2012 to 2018.

Gurbanova Ulduza, the Chair of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the institute, noted that today’s girls are the mothers of the future. A healthy mother means both a close-knit family and an educated society.

Then the young researcher of the Bioadaptation laboratory Gulnar Abdullayeva, recalled the words of the national leader, Heydar Aliyev, "Education is the future of the nation". She noted that the first Secular School for Girls in the Muslim East was created by the great humanitarian Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev in 1901. During the period of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic the equal right of all peoples living in the country and both sexes was defined by the legislation. Thus, Azerbaijan became the first country in the East giving women the right to vote. Youth policy, founded by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, successfully continued by our president today.

At the end of the event, F. Gasimova congratulated all the girls on the holiday and wished them health and success in their work.
