The article “Effects of the novel photosynthetic inhibitor [CuL2] Br2 complex on photosystem II activity in spinach", co-authored by the general director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies academician Irada Huseynova, head of the institute's international laboratory of Bionanotechnology, prof. Suleyman Allahverdiyev, and master student Mehriban Shabanova with foreign colleagues, was published in "Cells" journal (IF 7,611) (Cells 2022, 11(17), 2680; https://doi.org/10.3390/cells11172680). It should be noted that the online journal is a highly rated international journal that includes the results of research in the fields of cell biology, molecular biology, and biophysics.

The article is devoted to the study of the effect of a new complex compound [CuL2]Br2 complex (L = bis{4H-1,3,5-triazino [2,1-b]benzothiazole-2-amine,4-(2-imidazole)}copper(II) bromide complex) on the activity of photosystem II in membranes isolated from spinach plants. As a result of experimental studies, it has been proven that this complex compound inhibits the photosynthetic separation of oxygen with the presence of artificial electron acceptors and does not significantly affect the native state of proteins in photosystem II.
