A corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Suleyman Allahverdiyev, informed the reporter of RIA Novosti about the research on the creation of artificial photosynthesis May 03, 2023 | 09:55 / Important events

Renowned Azerbaijani scientist, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Controlled Photobiosynthesis Laboratory of the Institute of Plant Physiology, Senior Researcher of the Institute of Fundamental Problems of Biology, Head of the International Laboratory of Bionanotechnology of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the MSE RA Suleyman Allahverdiyev noted that It is difficult to predict the time of the creation of photosynthesis-based energy devices. However, scientists are working on solving this problem.

Suleyman Allahverdiyev's laboratory conducts extensive research on the use of photosynthesis-based systems in energetics. One of the directions of the work is the preparation of the scientific base for the creation of facilities for the production of hydrogen.

The scientist notes that the energy for this process is provided by the sun. Electrons and protons are obtained as a result of splitting water during photosynthesis. Both processes are natural and the second process has been optimized by nature over millions of years. The future of humanity depends on the success of such research as the efficient use of solar energy and water, the creation of promising systems of artificial photosynthesis, and the development of a productive catalyst for obtaining environmentally friendly molecular hydrogen. Despite the complexity of creating such systems, it is important to continue this work.
