March 31 is the day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis Mar 29, 2024 | 15:00 / Important events

Armenian nationalists have carried out ethnic cleansing, deportation and genocide against our compatriots to realize the mythical idea of "Great Armenia" at various stages of history. The March genocide of 1918 is one of the bloodiest tragedies not only in the history of Azerbaijan but also in human history due to its cruelty and scale. The crimes committed by Armenians during those times were indelibly etched in the memories of the Azerbaijani people. Thousands of peaceful Azerbaijanis were destroyed just because of their nationality. Armenians set fire to houses and burned people alive. They destroyed the pearls of national architecture, schools, hospitals, mosques and other monuments and turned a large part of Baku into ruins. Genocide of Azerbaijanis was carried out in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba districts, Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan, Lankaran and other regions of Azerbaijan. About 30,000 Azerbaijanis were killed with special cruelty in Baku alone.

On March 26, 1998, Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed the Decree on marking March 31 as the Genocide Day of Azerbaijanis. President Ilham Aliyev has taken and continues to take progressive steps in the direction of conveying the facts of genocide committed by Armenians in the last century to the world community. Such tragedies are the truths that have been repeated many times in all periods of our history, and we have no moral right to forget them.

We honor the memory of the victims of the genocide and pray for God's mercy on them.
