A scientific seminar with international participation on "Green energy and green economy problems" was held at the IMBB under the joint organization of the Presidium of ANAS and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education.

Academician Isa Habibeyli, President of ANAS, made his opening speech and drew attention to the fact that 2024 was declared the "Green World Solidarity Year" in the country by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated December 25, 2023. The president of ANAS said that several events in this direction have already been held, including the conference "Let's save our green world" jointly organized by the Presidium of ANAS and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of MSE RA on March 1, and on April 4, the conference on "Green growth and sustainable development" was held under the joint organization of Physics Institute of ANAS, and the Institute of Physiology named after academician Abdulla Garayev of MSE RA.

Then, with the opening speeches, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Aminagha Sadigov, Corresponding Member of ANAS, Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Dilgam Taghiyev, Advisor to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rasim Sattar expressed their valuable thoughts on the issues of "green world", climate changes, "green energy", "green economy" and wished success to the work of the seminar.

Later, the vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova said that preserving the green cover of the Earth, ecological balance and biodiversity is one of the most urgent global problems of the modern era. She noted that taking steps aimed at solving this problem, on this basis, the transition to more use of "green energy", which allows reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere, is one of the important directions of state policy in Azerbaijan today. The basis of this policy was laid by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev during the times when he led Azerbaijan and was represented in the leadership of the USSR, and Mr. President Ilham Aliyev continued and further developed it.

Academician Irada Huseynova noted that in addition to COP29, prestigious events such as the 19th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the 6th session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement will be held in November 2024 in our country.

Noting that the most optimal use of solar energy is related to the complex process of photosynthesis, which is the basis of the living world, academician Irada Huseynova highlighted the important achievements made by academician Jalal Aliyev, a great scientist and social and political figure in Azerbaijan, in the research of photosynthesis and photorespiration. The vice-president specially noted that the concept put forward by Academician Jalal Aliyev regarding the process of photorespiration was accepted by the world scientific community.

Then, according to the seminar program, Prof.Dr. Levent Chavash, head of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science of 9 Eylül University of Turkey, gave a presentation on "Research on obtaining hydrogen from waste algae and their important results", and Doctor of Biological Sciences Yashar Feyziyev, head of the Photobioenergetics Laboratory of the IMBB, gave a presentation on the topic of "Photosynthesis and green energy".

The scientific seminar successfully completed its work.
