The executive director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the MSE RA, PhD, associate professor Alamdar Mammadov participated in the Field Seminar "The role of genetic resources in the creation of new plant varieties adapted to global climate changes: vision of the future, perspectives"
On May 17, PhD Alamdar Mammadov participated in the Field Seminar organized at the Karabakh Scientific-Research Base located in Shikharkh settlement, Tartar region, of the Institute of Genetic Resources of the MSE RA. At the event, the head of Tartar District Executive Power, Mustagim Mammadov, director general of the Institute of Genetic Resources, Zeynal Akparov, and representatives of many private companies gave speeches.
Alamdar Mammadov conveyed the greetings of academician Irada Huseynova to the seminar participants and informed them about the scientific work carried out at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies. He noted that Genbanks, the "golden fund" of Azerbaijan, founded by Academician Jalal Aliyev and constantly enriched, have an unparalleled role for the creation of plant samples resistant to the effects of abiotic and biotic factors. A. Mammadov spoke about the selection of parent forms resistant to stress factors for the creation of new varieties at MBBI, their use in the creation of new more promising wheat varieties, the implementation of molecular diagnostics and identification of plant diseases (viruses, phytoplasmas and fungi), and the use of new methods in the screening process.
The participants were informed about the new plant varieties created (fruit, cotton and vegetable plants) and achievements. To eliminate existing problems, it was emphasized that it would be more effective to create new varieties, develop means of combating plant pests (biological, chemical), and perform joint activities on molecular diagnosis and identification of plant diseases. Later, the participants of the seminar visited the fields, got acquainted with the technology of cultivation of wheat genotypes and participated in the tree planting campaign.
