Today, an event dedicated to May 28 - Independence Day was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of MSE RA. First, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played at the event. After remembering the dear memories of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and all the martyrs who died for the freedom of the Motherland with a minute of silence, a video dedicated to May 28 - Independence Day was demonstrated. Announcing the event, Academician Irada Huseynova, general director of MBBI, noted that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first parliamentary republic, the first democratic, legal and secular state in the Muslim East, was established on May 28, 1918. From the first days of its existence, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, based on the principles of people's power and people's equality, eliminated racial, national, religious and class inequality by giving equal rights to all citizens of the country. Mammadamin Rasulzade, Alimardan Bey Topchubashov, Fatali Khan Khoyski, Hasan Bey Aghayev, Nasib Bey Yusifbeylin, Samad Bey Mehmandarov, Aliaga Shikhlinski and others, who led the Republic in the declaration of Azerbaijan's independence, establishment and functioning of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, had great services. The names of these prominent statesmen, patriotic intellectuals, and professional soldiers are forever engraved in the memory of our people. Unfortunately, the occupation of the Bolsheviks ended the existence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which operated for only 23 months. After the collapse of the Soviet Empire in 1991, our state independence was restored under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Heydar Aliyev used to say: "We are free, independent. We do not depend on anyone, we are the owners of our destiny. You know, for this, only for this, you can suffer for months and years. This is the only reason one can starve for years. Because, for centuries, our great-grandfathers, the thinking people of Azerbaijan lived with the dream of national freedom and independence, they fought for national freedom and independence, but they could not achieve it. We have achieved this”. Our independence, which was preserved by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, is today further strengthened by the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and its perpetuity is ensured. Today, Azerbaijan has become one of the most powerful countries in the world both politically and economically. Thanks to the President, our Commander-in-Chief and the brave Azerbaijani Army, the people of Azerbaijan are already welcoming May 28 - Independence Day as a victorious nation. Our tricolor flag flies proudly in our native Karabakh - Khankendi, Shusha, Aghdam, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Kalbajar, Gubadli and Lachin. Today, we can proudly say that we are celebrating the independence of our Motherland in Azerbaijan, which has fully ensured its territorial integrity.  Corresponding members of ANAS Novruz Guliyev, Ibrahim Azizov, doctor of biological sciences Atabey Jahangirov, doctors of philosophy Nargiz Bayramova, Nahida Aliyeva, martyr's brother Fazail Mammadov, an employee of the institute Raisa Ismayilova, and Afat Dadashova on behalf of the young people of the institute emphasized that every citizen of our country should work hard and fulfill his duties with honor and dignity to make our independence eternal.
