The scientific session on "Climate change and sustainability of ecosystems: threats, challenges, solutions" organized by the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of MSE AR (IMBB) started its work on October 14.
At the event, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, President of ANAS, members of the Presidium of ANAS, Head of the Department of Work with Scientific Institutions of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, Dr. Mubariz Hajibeyov, Vice-President of ANAS, Director General of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies, Academician Irada Huseynova, directors general of scientific institutions of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences, representatives of Baku State University and employees of IMBB participated.
Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who opened the event with an introductory speech, said that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29, which will be held in our country, is a historic event, and that such an event will be held in Azerbaijan thanks to the influence of President Ilham Aliyev. He said that this is also an expression of the world community's trust in Azerbaijan, and this trust was gained by the global policy and influence implemented by our head of state.
Dr. Mubariz Hajibeyov, head of the Department of Work with Scientific Institutions of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, stressed that environmental problems and climate changes have become global crises in recent years. Stating that Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 is a historic event, the head of the department said that it is commendable that ANAS and the Ministry of Science and Education hold joint events in this direction: "We must protect our world and environmental cleanliness. It is very important to carry out environmental education in this direction."
Then, Academician Irade Huseynova, Vice-President of ANAS, Director General of IMBB spoke on "Global and national challenges for sustainable development in the era of global climate changes". The academician emphasized that science currently faces important tasks such as developing forecasts related to the climate scenario, conducting constant monitoring of the country's natural landscapes, soil, water and green cover resources, the state of the atmosphere, changes in the composition of elements, the degree of pollution, and the radiation background.
