On November 19, academician Irada Huseynova, general director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the MSE AR, took part in the in the event "Baku Harmony Climate Initiative for Farmers " within “Food, Agriculture and Water Day”, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of collaboration with the COP29 Presidency, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Global climate obligations were discussed at the event held in the "Blue Zone".
Speaking at the event Kaveh Zahedi, Director of the Office for Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov, UK Environment Minister Mary Creagh, Amna Al Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates, as well as officials speaking at the COP-to-COP Acceleration panel session, highlighted that COP conferences increasingly focused on agri-food systems as an important sector for combating climate change and adapting to its impacts and emphasized that it is important to fulfill global climate obligations.
The event will find synergies, exchange lessons learned, and promote expedited national and regional action to meet the UNFCCC's global climate commitments, according to the organizers. At the same time, the event is seen as an opportunity to develop stronger collaboration between sectors, streamline resources and promote a sustained focus on long-term goals.
