The event was held on the Zoom platform. The event participants commemorated all our martyrs with a minute of silence. Opening the event the Executive Director of IMBB, PhD in biology Alamdar Mammadov said that no matter how painful this tragedy is for the people of Azerbaijan, it is also a heroic story. The January 20 event was one of the turning points in the Azerbaijani people's struggle for freedom and independence. This tragedy hastened the awakening of the people's national consciousness and strengthened their desire for independence. During the events, the people of Azerbaijan came together, demonstrating national unity. People did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for their Motherland. This unity played an important role in the people's path to independence. The events of January 20 demonstrated that the leadership of the USSR attempted to repress the national liberation movement in Azerbaijan with violence. This event once again exposed the nature of the repressive policy of the Soviet regime not only in Azerbaijan but throughout the world. Speaking at the event, PhDs in biology Durna Aliyeva, Samira Rustamova, Saadat Khudaverdiyeva, Nargiz Bayramova and research fellow Aygun Sadigova spoke about the exceptional importance of the events that took place at that time in achieving the independence and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

The people of Azerbaijan will never forget the martyrs who died for freedom!
