On March 10, the next scientific seminar was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the seminar, Zarintaj Shatirova, a researcher at the Population Genomics Laboratory of the institute, presented on the topic “Preliminary molecular-genetic analysis of anthropological materials in the territory of Azerbaijan”. The young researcher stated that ancient DNA studies worldwide have accelerated due to the development of Next-Generation Sequencing technologies and improved protocols. Such research has been conducted in Azerbaijan for several years now. A five-year memorandum was signed between IMBB and Germany's Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology to intensify the research further. It was noted that the preliminary results of the molecular-genetic analysis of anthropological materials from the territory of Azerbaijan have already been obtained. The computational statistical analysis of these results will provide an opportunity to understand our history and human migrations better. Zarintaj Shatirova's presentation was met with great interest by the seminar participants. Extensive discussions were held on the topic. The speaker answered the questions posed.
