PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Alemdar Mammadov, Executive Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies (IMBB) under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the conference titled “Laboratory Diagnostics of Autoimmune Diseases: Modern Methods and Clinical Application,” jointly organized by TABIB and the Bayramli Group. The main goal of the conference was to provide employees of public and private clinics operating in Azerbaijan with information about autoimmune diseases and the various immunoblot and molecular genetic methods used in their diagnostics, as well as the advantages and limitations of these methods, the modern equipment applied, and the principles of their operation. Alemdar Mammadov spoke about the ongoing research conducted at the newly established Population Genomics Laboratory of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies (IMBB), focusing on the investigation of mutations in several genes associated with Type 1 diabetes, classified as an autoimmune disease, as well as Type 2 diabetes. He emphasized the importance of studying mutations in genes associated with other autoimmune diseases prevalent in Azerbaijan within our population and highlighted the necessity of conducting joint research in this field.
