On June 26, Azerbaijan celebrates Armed Forces Day. This significant date marks the official anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijani Army and was granted the status of a national holiday by a decree signed by National Leader Heydar Aliyev on May 22, 1998. On June 26, 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic adopted a decision to establish the first regular military unit — the Azerbaijani National Army. Today, the modern Azerbaijani Army, shaped in continuation of these traditions, has become one of the strongest and most professional armies in the region. The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan are a reliable pillar of our statehood and independence, and a source of pride for our people. In particular, the glorious Victory achieved in the Patriotic War of 2020 once again demonstrated the strength and high combat capability of our army. On this occasion, we respectfully commemorate all our martyrs who gave their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and express our gratitude to all members of the Armed Forces and our veterans!
