An event dedicated to the 97th anniversary of the birth of prominent scientist and public-political figure Academician Jalal Aliyev was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The memory of the scientist was honored with a moment of silence. The event was opened with an introductory speech by Vice-President of ANAS and Director General of the institute, Academician Irada Huseynova. She spoke about the life, scientific and organizational activities of Academician Jalal Aliyev and highlighted his contributions to Azerbaijani and global science. Irada Huseynova noted that June 30 is not only the birthday of Academician Jalal Aliyev, but also marks the founding date of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies. The institute, founded by academician Jalal Aliyev and formed based on his ideas, has been operating successfully for 9 years.

In her speech, Academician Irada Huseynova emphasized that Jalal Aliyev’s research on the molecular-genetic basis of photosynthesis and photorespiration processes, the results he achieved, and the numerous wheat varieties he developed have been highly valued not only in our country but also by the international scientific community. The achievements of the academician’s students in Azerbaijan and various countries around the world once again affirm the strength of the scientific school he established. These successes are directly related to his high level of principle, demandingness, caring, and dedication in his teaching activities. It is a matter of pride that today, the students of Professor Jalal play an important role in the formation of young scientists in our country, demonstrating loyalty to the scientific and spiritual heritage of their masters on this difficult and responsible path.

Other speakers at the event also shared their fond memories of the great scientist and emphasized that his cherished memory will forever live in hearts.

At the end of the event, a film dedicated to Academician Jalal Aliyev was screened.
