The monograph “Current Issues in Ophthalmology” by the founder of the Azerbaijani scientific school of ophthalmology, Academician Zarifa Aziz gizi Aliyeva, Academician Larisa Konstantinovna Moshetova and Professor Nina Borisovna Shulpina, published in Russian in 1983, has been professionally translated into English for the first time and published in a new edition by the “Elm” publishing house of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) in a high-quality format.

The monograph was prepared for publication and scientifically edited by the Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova, and the director of the National Ophthalmology Center named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, corresponding member of ANAS, Elmar Gasimov. The monograph, published within the framework of the implementation of the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Academician Zarifa Aliyeva” dated November 3, 2022, and in accordance with the Decision No. 21/2 of the Presidium of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences dated November 22, 2022, was prefaced by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbayli, and one of the co-authors, President of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuous Professional Education, Academician Larisa Moshetova.

This valuable work covers five sections dedicated to key issues in ophthalmology: the moral education of physicians, issues of deontology, medical ethics and morality, modern aspects of eye biomicroscopy, fundamentals of eye virology, injuries to the organ of vision, and the fundamentals of eye microsurgery (propedeutics). The authors have highlighted the achievements in the theory and practice of the specialty, as well as their own scientific contributions, in accordance with the requirements of the unified program and methodological guidelines for the improvement and advanced training of ophthalmologists.

The English version of the monograph “Current Issues in Ophthalmology” will serve as a valuable resource for ophthalmologists, teachers of medical institutes and faculties, as well as for students studying in English.
