The Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the MSE AR, Academician Irada Huseynova, met with Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Shahin, Chairman of the Board of the Center of Excellence for Cell and Gene Therapy at Yeditepe University, Republic of Turkiye, Head of the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Director of the Biotechnology Institute, and Coordinator of the Laboratories of the Research and Analytical Center. During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on establishing cooperation between scientific organizations of Turkiye and Azerbaijan in areas of mutual interest, preparing and implementing joint research projects, training and exchange of young scientific personnel, and other related matters. For information, Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Shahin was elected a full member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) in 2012. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Health Institutes (TÜSEB) from 2015 to 2018 and a member of the TÜBA Council from 2013 to 2019.  A renowned scientist with an H-index of 79 and an i10-index of 369, Prof. Shahin conducts scientific research in molecular identification and characterization of clinical, food, environmental, and plant-origin microorganisms, development of biologically active compounds used in industry, development and production of antimicrobial materials, stem cell research, gene therapy, and cancer. Prof. Fikrettin Shahin is the author of 554 scientific articles, 513 theses, 40 book chapters, 7 books, and holds 245 patents.
