On July 23–25, the Head of the Laboratory of Genome Structure and Expression of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Alamdar Mammadov, researchers  Saida Zulfugarova, Natella Aliyeva, and junior researchers Khayala Aliyeva and Goncha Alekperova participated in a scientific mission at the Gobustan Regional Experimental Station of the Research Institute of Crop Husbandry. The primary goal of the mission was to monitor the harvesting process and collection of grains from various wheat genotypes and lines sown within the framework of a state program. Currently, manual harvesting and bundling of 188 wheat specimens and new hybrids sown at the site is actively underway. Following this process, key parameters such as the number of grains per spike, thousand grain weight, and yield will be determined. The mission participants from the Institute collaborated with the station’s staff in carrying out the aforementioned tasks. The collected samples of wheat genotypes, lines, and hybrids have been brought to the Institute for further analysis of gene expression related to drought tolerance. Comparative analysis of the expression of drought-responsive genes and the activity of certain antioxidant enzymes in the seeds of these wheat genotypes will enable the identification of drought-tolerant genotypes, lines, and forms.
