PhD in Biology, Assoc. Prof. Nurmammad Mustafayev, Head of the Population Genomics Laboratory at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the 5th International TURAZ Academy Congress (UTAK 2025) on “Multifaceted Forensic Medicine and Pathology,” held on September 11–13 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Nurmammad Mustafayev delivered presentations at the congress on “Mutation cases detected in genetic testing and disease-associated alleles/genotypes” and “Investigation of the composition of Y-DNA haplogroups in the Azerbaijani population.” Both topics attracted significant interest from the audience. The results related to pathogenic alleles/genotypes, as well as the detection of various haplogroups during the study of the Y-DNA gene pool of our population involving the DYF387S1 Y-STR locus represented by allele variants 1 (J2b, L), 2 (J1, E1b1b), 3 (E1b1a, E1b1b, R1), and 6 (E1b1b), attracted particular interest. Nurmammad Mustafayev also discussed the possibilities of future cooperation and development of joint projects with Uzbek and Turkish specialists.
