On September 26, an event dedicated to the 27 September – Memorial Day was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The event began with the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland. The event was opened by the Executive Director of the IMBB, PhD in Biology, Associate Professor Alemdar Mammadov, who spoke about the historical significance of the 44-day Patriotic War. He emphasized that thanks to the resolute will, strong political and diplomatic efforts, and the leadership demonstrated by President Ilham Aliyev as the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the Azerbaijani Army liberated our lands that had been under occupation for nearly 30 years. He noted that this victory was made possible through the unity and national solidarity of our people. Alemdar Mammadov emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev, by successfully continuing the statehood path defined by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, fulfilled his greatest testament – the liberation of Karabakh. He noted that this Victory represents the highest peak of our people's centuries-long struggle for the freedom of their ancestral lands and stands not only as a triumph of military power, but also of political foresight, national spirit, and the unity of the people, the army, and the state.
In his speech, Corresponding Member of ANAS Ibrahim Azizov noted that during the days of the war, the eagerness not only of young people but also of the elderly to volunteer for the front was the brightest example of our people's love for the Motherland and unity. This fact once again confirms the importance of education in the spirit of patriotism. At the event, Firuze Rzayeva, the sister of martyr Aslan Rzayev, as well as the institute’s employees – PhD in Biology Mayakhanim Khanishova, Nasiba Abdullayeva from the Department of Supply and Services, and Mikayil Pashayev, Head of the Civil Defense Headquarters of the institute, whose sons are veterans of the Patriotic War, expressed their confidence that the heroism of their sons will forever live in the memory of the people. Later, participant of the First Karabakh War, PhD in Biology Nurmammad Mustafayev, and Chair of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists, PhD in Biology Nargiz Bayramova, delivered speeches, paying tribute to the sacred memory of the martyrs. They particularly emphasized the invaluable role of the Patriotic War in Azerbaijan’s modern history, highlighting it as a symbol of our national pride and the strength of our state.
